The Charmer Sunbelt Group Endowed Chair in Wines and Spirits
Steven Kolpan teaches senior-level wines classes in the college’s bachelor’s degree program. A Certified Wine Educator, Professor Kolpan was honored as Wine Educator of the Year by the European Wine Council in 2007. He is co-author of the James Beard Award-winning WineWise as well as Exploring Wine, the textbook used by students at the CIA and beyond. Mr. Kolpan is also the author of the award-winning A Sense of Place. His industry experience includes wine and hospitality positions for Depuy Canal House, the 1820 House, the Roger Smith Hotel, and Gigi Trattoria. He has served as a columnist for The Valley Table, Wine Report, Santé, and The National Culinary Review; and contributing writer for The Financial Times, Fine Cooking, and Wine & Spirits. Professor Kolpan holds a BA from the State University of New York at New Paltz; is a graduate of the illycaffè University of Coffee in Trieste, Italy; and is certified as a professional olive oil taster by the International Olive Oil Council.
