Michael WeissThe Charmer Sunbelt Group Endowed Chair in Wines and Spirits

Michael Weiss teaches wines in the college’s bachelor’s degree program. He joined the CIA faculty in 1987, after serving as chef sommelier and maître d’hôtel for The Breakers Hotel, Don Cesar, the Colony Beach Resort, and Arnauds. He is co-author of Exploring Wine and the James Beard Award-winning WineWise: Your Complete Guide to Understanding, Selecting, and Enjoying Wine. Professor Weiss was awarded the Diploma of Honor from the Corporation des Vignerons de Champagne in France and inducted into the Confraria, or Brotherhood of Porto. In 2007, he was honored as a Wine Educator of the Year by the European Wine Council. Mr. Weiss travels extensively to judge wine events and to give lectures at wine festivals. He also serves as an adjunct professor at The New School in New York City. A Certified Wine Educator and Certified Hospitality Educator, Professor Weiss holds a bachelor’s degree from the State University of New York, Empire State College and an advanced level certificate from the Court of Master Sommeliers.
