Widely known as the “Father of Wine Country Cuisine,” John Ash opened his pioneering John Ash & Company in 1980. The Santa Rosa, CA restaurant was the first in Northern California wine country to focus on dishes with local, seasonal ingredients that complemented the wines being made in the region. Named Cooking School Teacher of the Year by the International Association of Culinary Professionals in 2008, Chef Ash travels the world teaching professionals and home cooks. He has written four books, two of which earned James Beard Awards and one that was honored with two IACP honors. Chef Ash has also co-hosted a radio show on KSRO for more than 27 years and was host of two Food Network programs. A passionate advocate for sustainable food issues, he has served on the boards of Chefs Collaborative and Seafood Watch, and was named Seafood Educator of the Year in 2014 by the Monterey Bay Aquarium.
